Jim
has over 30 years experience in the consulting, performance
management, and the management training field. He has assisted
senior and executive level managers in improving
their overall performance and achieving their strategies by
helping them address issues related to strategic planning,
corporate culture, operating models, leadership & management
training, talent management, organization design and team
and organizational effectiveness. Jim is highly skilled in
conducting and facilitating team building and conflict resolution
sessions with individuals, teams and groups. He is widely
known for his expertise in executive team building, executive
coaching, talent management, succession management, and change
management.
Jim spent 25 years with Crestar Bank (47 billion dollars
in assets and 12,000 employees) in Richmond Virginia. During
his last 5 years he was a member of the executive management
team at Crestar Bank where he served as the Corporate Human
Resources Director. He played a key role in strategy formulation
as well as aligning the strategy to systems, structures, and
the culture. He consulted with line management on organization
design and reengineering projects. He was responsible for
developing and implementing employee branding strategies designed
to unify the workforce around corporate strategies and culture.
Jim was also responsible for leading corporate-wide recruiting,
compensation and benefits initiatives, as well as EEO. He also played
a key role as transition manager in the Crestar/SunTrust merger,
helping to integrate the cultures of the two systems.
Prior to becoming the corporate human resource director,
Jim managed the organizational development and training function
for Crestar Bank for over twenty years. In this role he served
as a senior consultant to the executive and senior management
team. He designed and conducted training programs for all
levels of management on topics including leadership skills,
strategic planning, building a service culture, managing organizational
change, high performance teams, supervisory & management
skills and productivity improvement strategies.
Jim’s work experience also included five years as a
senior management-training specialist and employment recruiting
supervisor for Eastern Airlines located in Miami, Florida.
It was in this job that Jim developed his initial passion
for leadership and organizational culture.
He holds a Masters in a human resource development from Virginia
Commonwealth University as well as a B.A. degree in psychology
from Florida State University. Jim was a faculty member for
five years at the Consumer Banking School Associations two-week
Retail Banking Program at the University of Virginia. He also
served as adjunct faculty member at the University of Richmond
for two years in the School of Continuing Studies to add to
his experience in human resources. Jim has done extensive
consulting in the transportation and nonprofit arenas.
